Common questions
Why doesn't WiHunt find my zones?
Zones and deer units come from the Wisconsin DNR's maps, so they're only found inside Wisconsin, with location access on and a data connection. Outside Wisconsin, turn on Settings › Demo location · Madison, WI to try the app, or pick your zones by hand in My Zones.
How accurate are the shooting hours?
WiHunt calculates sunrise and sunset for your exact location, typically within a minute of published tables. The DNR's printed shooting-hours tables are the legal reference, so check them when it's close.
Why didn't I get an alert?
Check that notifications are allowed for WiHunt and that the alert is on in WiHunt's Settings. Alerts are only scheduled for seasons you're licensed for, so add your licenses first. On Android 14 and later, alerts can arrive a few minutes late unless WiHunt is allowed to set alarms (Settings › Apps › WiHunt › Alarms & reminders).
Why does a season say "Need" when I have a license?
Many seasons need more than one item, such as a stamp, a permit or HIP registration as well as the license. Open the season to see exactly what's missing, and tap Add to put it in your wallet. Spring turkey licenses also need their period set.
How do I stop registration reminders for a harvest?
Open the harvest and enter your GameReg confirmation number. Reminders stop as soon as it's saved.
Does anything cost money?
No. Every feature is free, including the Apple Watch app and the lock-screen countdown. On iPhone you can leave an optional tip in Settings › Support WiHunt. Tips unlock nothing; they help cover the yearly regulation update and the Apple Developer fee. For a refund, use Apple's Report a Problem.
What happens to my data on a new phone?
WiHunt has no account, so your data lives only on your device. It moves to a new phone if you restore from your iCloud or Google backup. Otherwise, add your licenses again with the setup checklist.
When are the regulations updated?
WiHunt includes one regulation year at a time and is updated each year when the DNR publishes new season dates. If the data runs out before you update, the app shows a banner on the Today screen.
Is WiHunt an official DNR app?
No. WiHunt is an independent app and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Always confirm with the official DNR regulations before you hunt.
